As we look back on 2009 we’ll remember the year as one that presented nearly every industry not only with economic challenges, but also with the chance to find creative opportunities to help businesses survive and even continue to grow. Consumers’ mindsets and spending habits changed in 2009, and we adapted our digital incentives and rewards programs further into value-minded, engaging offers that brands could take hold of and boost their sales.
The team at Promotional Currency has a few favorite events that occurred during the year that not only made 2009 great, but will set us up to provide powerful digital incentives and underwriting for 2010.
• The partnership with Hip Digital propelled Promotional Currency’s digital music offering into a whole new realm of tech-savvy yet confusion-free downloads. Hip Digital offers its 2+ million downloads in MP3 format, meaning they’re free from the Digital Rights Management (DRM) protocol that locks up content.
What does Promotional Currency bring to the table of this great new alliance? Josh Gertz, Vice President of Sales at Hip Digital, describes it best: “Promotions for us is like herding cats. Working with Barry, Cyndi and their crew means that we can offload this part of our business to them so that they can do what they do best in the areas of pricing, processing and client management. • Promotional Currency formed another strategic relationship with Chicago-based VerveLife, merging a full digital music experience (games, videos, mobile content and more) with risk underwriting and licensing engagements with big-name artists. We’re wondering what 2010 will bring that’s even more fun than the tandem promotions we produced this year that involved Sony’s new PSP gaming system, the tween demographic, and Hollywood Records.
• We also gave our website a fresh coat of paint, additional content, and some powerful SEO that brought us to the front for companies searching for information and a connection to the new wave of incentives that are possible for their customers.
• Another feature of our website that make our clients’ download purchases easier than ever is the new online store for purchasing music download codes and cards, as well as ringtones. The click-n-choose navigation makes it easy to order up to 5,000 codes with streamlined order processing. At the same time, the crew in our office will manage your order with the same attention as always.

PROMOTION SPOTLIGHT: Small Company, Big Attitude
You may not find one of our recent orders of music download cards in a shrink-wrapped package in a national chain, but Dallas’ Advanced Creative Endeavors hopes that their music download cards will carry just as big of an impact. “We wanted to do something different this year as part of our client Christmas gifts that presents our company as forward-thinking and edgy,” says co-owner Shannon Serwin. The boutique marketing agency works with small to medium businesses as well as provides extra talent for larger firms in their industry. “We also hope that giving music in this fashion will further promote our brand as one that uses art and language to deliver engaging messages to our clients’ targets.” Advanced Creative Endeavors is not only giving 5- and 10-song download cards as gifts, but they’re also using them for networking meetings, referral thank-yous, and giveaways at school and community events.

MEET OUR TEAM
With a deep knowledge and history in the promotions and risk underwriting industries, Promotional Currency president Barry Schaffer continues to grow dynamic partnerships nationwide in order to bring innovative products to our clients. When he’s not behind the desk you’ll find him traveling with his wife; and in particular, to Maui to see their perfect grandson (with another on the way in June 2010!).
One of Barry’s hobbies (to put it mildly) is grand in scale and global in nature, as he is associating with engineers who are pioneering plasma gasification. Simply put, this process turns electronic waste such as cell phones, PCs and TVs into energy. The world-changing concept of waste energy will ultimately be a cleaner, cheaper method to keep the lights on. “It’s the ordinary doing the extraordinary,” says Barry, and it’s no surprise to us that he plants himself right in the middle of it.
